Self Portrait Homework

Image
When drawing myself I used a mirror propped up on a small table. I rarely do self portraits as I don't usual draw exactly what I see but instead I try to remove any imperfections i don't like. This took me over and hour to draw. If i could change anything I would change the eyes as i don't think I have drawn the proportionately as they look to big. As well as my ears being at two different angles. This has helped me identify areas I need to improve in.

Last Drawing Week 1

Image
For our last drawing we got to choose to draw any way we wanted. I chose to do a normal sketch instead of practising what i learned in class earlier. As i wanted to see how/if my skills have changed in the lesson. I really like how this turned out as its more realistic and controlled.

Non Dominant hand Week 1

Image
Using my non dominant hand forced me to learn how to hold a pencil and draw a portrait. I really like how this turned out. Even though the lines are very shaky i think this adds to show the age of the model and add texture as well as movement. I found it very difficult to change directions when drawings as my hand didn't feel naturally comfortable.

two handed semi-blind drawing week 1

Using both my hands was a very weird and unusual. all the lines are very wavy and uneven. I really like how it turned out, even though it looks nothing like the model, I like how the lines add texture to the page.

Semi-blind drawing week 1

I tried very hard not to look at the paper too many times as I wanted to make sure i got the truest result. I also found the two results very funny to look at. how the facial features are very disproportionate and the face being lopsided.

Blind Drawing week 1

This was a very difficult challenge and I didn't feel very comfortable with the task. I found it very difficult to keep my eyes on the model as it felt very weird and intimate. I found it very fun to do this challenge as it took me out of my comfort zone and I found it funny to see the result.

5 & 2 and a half minute sketches- Week 1

Image
2 and a half minutes 5 minutes We kept the same model and drew in an even shorter time limit ( 5 minutes and then 2 1/2 minutes). This was a challenge as i knew I'd be even more rushed and need to learn how and where would be the best place to start. I don't like how my 2 and a half minute sketch came out as it was very rushed and looks nothing like my model. Yet I am glad to have tried as I know i have to keep practising to be able to quick sketch. As for my 5 minute sketch I like how it turned out, even though the proportions are correct, I still kept a level of detail and features.

5 minute sketch- Week 1

Image
We halved the time limit again and changed partners. This time I felt a bit more confident about sketching as I managed to do the 10 minute sketch. This time because i was sketching fast I didn't pay too much attention to the proportions. I found this difficult as my proportions went wrong and I nearly had just a floating head.

10 minute sketch- Week 1

Image
After the first warm up we changed partners to draw a 10 minute sketch. As I took my time with the 20 minute sketch I found it stressful and a challenge. I decided to use a loose approach as i didn't know how much detail or features I would be able to draw in the time limit. I really like how it came out as the lines are quite shaken yet adds a new texture to the model. If i had more time I would of added more shading or detail to the hair as it looks quite block like.

20 minute drawing- Week 1

Image
At the start of the lesson we got into groups and had to draw a portrait of each other. The first drawing was 20 minutes long. I felt very comfortable in this time frame and took my time to do a sketch and get all the proportions correct. I tried to keep all the details on the face yet I didn't want to offend the model by adding wrinkles or "imperfections" they may feel ashamed of. I don't feel fully happy about this drawing as i didn't add much tone or shading.
