Watercolour Shadow and light speed challenges

Image
2 1/2 minutes 10 minutes 5 minutes  Speed Watercolour challenge- I wanted to try doing a quick speed challenge using watercolours to make me come out of my comfort zone and loosen up with my art. I found the 10 minute painting very relaxing and detailed even though I missed out an arm. As for the 5 minute painting half way down it turn into a blob of colour. without any detail or any definition. I'm not too fond of how it turn out due to not looking like the male model. The 2 and a half minute I knew wasn't going to be my best but I don't mind how much rough it is as it was done really quickly.

Week 4

Image
40 mins   Week 4- I found the 40 minute drawing very helpful as it pointed out how and where i needed improvement. I definitely needed help proportional wise and learning how to measure more. As for the One minute drawings I found it difficult to get in all the body parts as well as keeping them in proportion. This has helped me focus more on proportioning and practising more speed challenges. On minute drawings 40 mins

Watercolour Home objects

Image
Watercolour Home objects- After drawing the household objects I wanted to try and do them using watercolour my first drawing (Xbox controller) was drawn in pencil first to help loosen me up. I really like how this came out as the proportions are right and so are the colours.

Startues A2 Homework

Image
Statues A2 - When drawing the statues at my local Cathedral I wanted to make sure a lot of detail was added. With the weather being very cold I found it difficult to draw/ watercolour for long amounts of time.

Charcoal Nude model 5 Minute

Image
Charcoal 5 Minute drawing- Charcoal was quite hard to work with because if i made a mistake it was hard to work around it. I do like how the image came out yet I don't think all the proportions are correct.

Watercolour two colours

Image
I used yellow for highlights and blue for shadow. This format helped me view where light hits and where shadow lays. I enjoyed how freeing this was and even though it didn't involve a lot of detail it still adds to the realism.

Nude model proportion sketch

Image
Nude model- I found life drawing to be very different from my normal style. It helped me figure out proportions and directions. I wanted to start off doing a detailed sketch to get used to proportions. I didn't add much shading as i wanted to focus on my proportions. It was the first time i used the measuring method i think it has definitely helped me improve the realism of the models body.

Portraits

Image
Portraits- Using watercolour to create realistic skin colour was very difficult for me as i wasn't used to using blue tones to add shadow. I didn't want to add too much detail as i wanted to focus on the realism of the skin. I found this quite difficult but has helped me feel better mixing my colour palette an doing portraits. As for the charcoal portrait I felt more comfortable using it as it was easy to blend and get the shadows right.

Watercolour hands

Image
Watercolour hands- I'm very fond of my watercolour hand even though one is better than the other. I think the watercolour paintings has helped me loosen up and not to be restricting with my colour palette.

Train journey sketches

Image
Train Journey Sketches- I tried drawing quick little sketches on my train journeys. I used colour pencils to add a new medium to my work. I found this very difficult as i had to make sure to sketch quickly and try and keep them in proportion. If i could do anything different I would try looking at the page less and more on the person I'm drawing.

Hand holding objects drawings

Image
Hand holding Objects- After practising hands i found it much easier to draw these and tried adding more detail. I still don't think I've got the hang of it as the proportions seem off. I tried to add a bit of variety to different sized objects. I want to trial different medias next.

Household objects

Image
Household Objects- I chose 3 different very different house hold objects to draw. I found this quite easy to do as I'm used to drawing objects realistically. I want to try and do timed trials to see how my drawing skills would change.

Pencil Hand Poses

Pencil Hand Poses  - I found this very helpful to practie drawing hands more. Although I found this helpful I'm not very proud of how these turned out yet I hope to get better with more practise.
